Stong College Fall 2021 Academic Orientation

Academic Orientation

Attending Academic Orientation will help you connect with fellow students and learn about your academic program by meeting with faculty members, peer leaders and staff. In addition, you will also learn about all of the resources available to you at Stong College and York University to help you succeed!

Academic Orientation will be held from Friday, August 20 to Thursday, September 2, 2021, and is divided according to your academic program/major.

All incoming students are assigned a Peer Mentor. To participate in Academic Orientation, you will receive an email from your Peer Mentor with your assigned Academic Orientation session date and registration form. A confirmation email along with a Zoom link to access the session will be sent following registration.

Stong College will be offering Academic Orientation for students from the following programs:

Program Overview (morning sessions)

Time (EDT) Activity Location Description
10:00-10:20 AM Welcome Main Room Students are welcomed by the session's hosts and placed into breakout rooms as they roll in. 
10:20 –11:25 AM Icebreakers, Tips from Upper Year Students & Meet the Prof Breakout Rooms Students engage in icebreaker activities and learn tips for success from upper-year students and/or mentors. Students will also have a chance to meet a Calumet or Stong College community member including a professor, grad student, or alumni. 
11:25-11:35 AM Break Main Room Students will be given a 10-minute bio-break.
11:35 AM - 12:20 PM Academic Honesty & the Undergraduate Program Director (UPD)'s Presentation Main Room Students learn from student leaders and their Undergraduate Program Director (UPD) about their academic program requirements, expectations, and academic honesty. Students will have a chance to ask questions. 
12:20-1:50 PM College Resources, Student Clubs & Student Panel Main Room Students are introduced to College Heads, Stong College Student Government, Student Clubs, and Student Success Programs. Afterwards, 2-3 student panelists will talk about their experiences at York U/Faculty of Health and answer questions.
1:50- 2:00 PM Wrap-Up Main Room Attendees are provided with a chance to give feedback on how we can improve. Orientation ends with closing remarks.
